FAQ
Which surah should I start reading first?
If you are just beginning, start with Surah Al-Fatihah, it is the opening chapter of the Quran and the one recited in every prayer. After that, many beginners move to the short surahs at the end of the Quran, such as Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas, because they are brief and rich in meaning. Then you can take on the longer surahs like Al-Baqarah at your own pace.
Does every surah guide include a translation?
Yes. Each guide includes the Arabic text, a Latin transliteration to help with pronunciation, and an English translation of the opening verses, along with verse-by-verse guidance on the rest of the surah. Longer surahs also carry their complete Arabic text on the page.
Are these guides suitable for beginners and new Muslims?
Absolutely, they are written for exactly that reader. We explain background, themes, and key verses in plain, warm language, without assuming prior knowledge. If you have studied for years, you will still find the verse navigation and theme summaries a useful companion.
What is the difference between Makki and Madani surahs?
Makki surahs were revealed in Makkah, mostly before the migration to Madinah, and often focus on faith, the oneness of Allah, and the Hereafter. Madani surahs were revealed in Madinah and often address community life, worship, and guidance for society. Each of our guides notes which category its surah belongs to.
How long are the surahs? How much time will a guide take?
Surahs range from just 3 verses (Al-Kawthar, Al-Asr, An-Nasr) to 286 verses (Al-Baqarah). A guide for a short surah takes a few minutes to read; longer surahs are broken into sections with a sample of opening verses plus the full Arabic text, so you can study them over several sittings.
Can I listen to the surahs as well as read them?
Every surah guide on this site includes the complete Arabic text to read in full. For audio recitation, we recommend learning with a qualified teacher or a trusted reciter, which remains the best way to perfect pronunciation.
